This Philly cheesesteak pizza combines all the delicious flavors of the classic submarine sandwich but piled onto a pizza crust and baked to golden perfection.
Pizza inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak makes it easy to serve up those famous flavors for a larger crowd. It’s hearty, slightly smoky, and satisfying—like a steak sandwich met a well-made pizza and neither compromised.

Philly cheesesteak pizza brings together the bold, savory flavors of the classic sandwich on a crisp, golden crust. The base is brushed with olive oil, then layered with sweet sautéed onions, peppers, and garlic that soften into a rich foundation. Thinly sliced steak or shaved beef is seared just enough to stay juicy, seasoned simply with salt and black pepper. A generous mix of melted mozzarella and provolone stretches across every bite, creating that perfect balance of creaminess and umami.

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Pizza
The full list of ingredients, including measurements, and step by step instructions can be found in the printable recipe card below. Here is a brief overview of how to bring this pizza recipe from the screen to the table.

- Cook the peppers, onions, and garlic. I like to stop the cooking before they are the stage I would eat them on a traditional Philly cheesesteak sub because they will cook more in the oven.
- Cook the steak and thinly slice.

- Place pizza crust onto baking pan.
- Add provolone cheese pieces.
- Top with prepared peppers, onions, and steak.
- Add mozzarella cheese and bake.

This Philly steak pizza is one of my absolute favorite things to serve for pizza night when we are craving something outside of the usual pepperoni or cheese pizza. This is going to be an instant family favorite.

Philly Cheesesteak Pizza
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons olive oil divided
- 1 small onion thinly sliced
- 1 small green bell pepper thinly sliced
- 1 small red bell pepper thinly sliced (optional)
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 8 oz thinly sliced steak ribeye or sirloin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 ball of pizza dough store-bought or homemade
- ½ cup provolone cheese shredded or torn
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
- Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté the onions and peppers for 4–5 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.4 tablespoons olive oil, 1 small onion, 1 small green bell pepper, 1 small red bell pepper, 1 clove garlic
- Add the steak to the pan and cook until just browned (about 1–2 minutes). Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.8 oz thinly sliced steak, Salt and pepper
- On a floured surface, roll or stretch your pizza dough into a 12–14-inch round. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet or pizza peel if using a stone. Brush lightly with olive oil.1 ball of pizza dough
- Top with provolone, then add the steak and veggie mixture. Finish with shredded mozzarella cheese on top.½ cup provolone cheese, 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and starting to brown.
- Slice and serve hot.
Notes
- Room temp dough = better stretch. If using refrigerated dough, let it rest at room temperature for 30–60 minutes before shaping so it doesn’t spring back.
- Use freshly shredded cheese for better melt and flavor. Pre-shredded cheese often contains anti-caking agents that can affect texture.
- Blend provolone and mozzarella for that iconic Philly flavor. You could even throw in some white American cheese if you want to go full cheesesteak-style.
- If baking on a sheet pan, go for the lowest oven rack—you’ll get a crispier bottom.
