Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites with Dip

May 7, 2015 By Shannah Coe Leave a Comment

We love pretzels here so it was a no brainer to work with Simply Homemade® for this pretzel post. As always, while I may have received compensation for this post, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I don’t remember at what age I started really getting interested in cooking and food. I think it was probably late teens or early twenties. It definitely wasn’t seven. Right now, my daughter is always asking to do things in the kitchen and I love it. It gives her and I a chance to spend some time together {since I am always in the kitchen} and also teaches her some important life skills pretty early on. Recently, we got a chance to make pretzels and we made a variety including cinnamon sugar pretzel bites with a yummy dip.

Candy Corn M&M Halloween “Trash”

September 30, 2014 By Shannah Coe 7 Comments

Sometimes, the simplest recipes are the best. I love creating recipes that are easy to make but taste delicious. This is especially true when Halloween or Christmas comes around and I want to be able to give treats to neighbors and visitors. One of our favorite things to make any time of year is white “trash.” I decided to change it up a little bit and make candy corn M&M Halloween “trash” after seeing the candy corn flavored M&Ms at the store.

Coconut Lime Oreo Truffles

July 28, 2014 By Shannah Coe 4 Comments

Oreo cookies are one of those things you will almost always find in our house. We buy the little snack packs in the giant size from Costco to put in lunches and will usually have just a regular package in the house for the random sweet snack. At the store the other day, I saw the new Limeade flavor and knew I had to try them. Of course, as I do with most Oreo flavors, I decided “bake” with them and made coconut lime Oreo truffles using the new flavor.

Yummy...these limeade oreo truffles are no bake and taste a lot like key lime pie!

Food for July 4th: Red, White and Blue Firecrackers

June 10, 2013 By Shannah 66 Comments

Food for July 4th parties can be so fun to make! Get the kids involved and make these Red, White and Blue Firecrackers using only marshmallows and candy! These Red, White and Blue chocolate dipped marshmallow pops are so festive and fun to make, everyone will have a blast!

I love entertaining!  Holidays for me mean a time to get family and friends together and share a meal.  Of course, for most holidays, I like to coordinate the food with the occasion.  When thinking about food for July 4th, I wanted something fun that the kids could also help with.

Flashback: Frozen Yogurt Bites

April 15, 2013 By Shannah 7 Comments

With spring {finally} here, I’ve been planning to make these frozen yogurt bites and store them in the freezer for a fun snack for the kids.  Ever since we discovered them last year, they are a favorite in our house.

***********************************************

I’ve been kind of busy around here so I haven’t spent quite as much time on Pinterest as I usually do. One thing caught my eye recently though…you might have seen it:

Cooking with Kids

April 29, 2011 By Shannah 2 Comments

 4.28.11
I love to cook. With 2 children, I don’t always have the time to really get in the kitchen and COOK but I try to whenever possible. I was reading Gina’s Skinny Taste one day and her recipe for that day was homemade chicken nuggets. Light bulb…why not spend some time in the kitchen sharing with my daughter one of the activities I love most?!
Being 3.5 years old (the .5 is very important since most of her friends are already 4), I actually didn’t get to do very much because H insisted that these were her chicken nuggets. I was just there for the “hot things” according to her.

I was a little surprised because I was just sure she was going to run away screaming at the first touch of raw chicken (husband definitely would have!) but I think drying it in the paper towel before giving it to her helped with that.

She rolled every nugget and placed them ever so carefully on the baking tray. Once they were ready for the oven, she seemed a little reluctant to give up all of that hard work (please excuse the earphones – no explanation for why she decided to put them. Maybe chicken is loud?).

We watched the oven intently waiting for the fruits of her labor to cook. Of course, there were lots of “are they ready yet” because she is 3 (3.5). Finally…

I’m thinking dinner at this point (cooking with kids is FUN but sloooowwww) and H says “Let’s cook something else, mamma”. Cue dessert preparations.
Awhile back, a friend made these delicious chocolate chip oatmeal bars and shared them with my family. Since that day, my husband asks for them almost weekly. It is a pretty simply combination of prepared cookie dough, oats, chocolate chips and caramel ice cream sauce (I prefer a salted caramel version).
H loves to stir things.
The caramel sauce goes over the layered cookie dough and chocolate chips. I put the layered part together because H stirred for a good 10 minutes.
Sadly, we didn’t get any pictures of the final products (the caramel sauce goes over the layered bars and then an additional layer of cookie dough goes on top before baking), because someone else decided that he needed attention.

Yep, that is food…all over him! E is just starting on finger foods so he ends up wearing a little more of it than he actually eats. See how he is holding his spoon? He was banging it asking for more! The picture taking was abandoned so he could end up where he obviously needed to be.
