Valentine’s Day Stenciled Burlap Pennant Banner

January 13, 2014 By Shannah Coe 28 Comments

We’re not crazy Valentine’s decorators around here.  After all of the Christmas decorating and un-decorating, I am just a little too lazy to really do much so I tend to leave a lot of the winter decorations that I used as part of Christmas up in the house.  I do pump a little bit of pink and red here and there though like this Valentine’s Day burlap pennant banner I made over the weekend.Burlap Banner with Label_wmThis banner was one of those more spur of the moment crafts when I sat down to make something but didn’t really know what I wanted to make!  It would be a 30 minute craft too if you count out your buttons before hand and aren’t left redoing the whole thing because you didn’t have enough of the right size button. SMH!

Anyhoo…here is what I used to make my banner:
– Burlap {I had pre-cut triangles but you could easily cut them out of a large piece of burlap}
– Heart stencil
– Paint and paint brush
– Buttons
– Fabric glue
– Ribbon

Start by deciding what you want to put on your banner.  I went with Love because I think it is perfect for Valentine’s Day!  I wanted a little more embellishment though so I stenciled hearts onto the two pieces on the end.Burlap Pennant with Stencil_wmUse the buttons to spell out the letters to whatever word you chose.  This took me a couple of tries because of the lack of the right sized buttons I mentioned.  Once you have it all laid out, get to glueing!Button O on Burlap_wmBurlap Banner with Buttons_wmFrom there, cut a small hole in each upper corner of each triangle.  Thread your ribbon through the holes to create your banner.Burlap Banner with Ribbon_wmOnce my glue dried, I was ready to hang it up! I love that you looped the heart ribbon through. The buttons have it a pretty touch! This reminds me I need to make more of my banners for the rest if my home!

    It is a bit too early for me, but I will keep all your great ideas in mind once February comes around. My worry is always to try not to eat too much chocolate.

    I love that it’s not perfect, and has some room for frayed edges. I could totally handle this with my kids!
