Valentine’s Day Button Art

January 14, 2014 By Shannah Coe 10 Comments

Yesteday I shared my Valentine’s Day burlap pennant banner and I was all boo hoo in that post about how long it took to put together because I kept running out of the right sized buttons.  Perhaps you were wondering why I was running out of buttons?  Or perhaps I am the only one that thinks like that 😉  Well, I had made some Valentine’s Day button art as a quick project earlier and that was where all the right sized buttons went!Valentines Day Art with label_wmThis project literally takes maybe 15 minutes {if you exclude the paint drying time or pick a pre-painted frame}.   I did it during my project time one day while it was naptime/quiet time so the kids were busy.  You could easily get the kids involved on this one too.  It would make a great gift for a teacher or grandparent!

The supplies you’ll need:
– A picture frame
– Paint and paint brush (optional)
– Buttons
– Craft glue

I start with a plain frame and some red paint.  You could easily use a prepainted frame to make this an even easier/faster project!Valentines Art Supplies_wmI painted my frame with two coats of the red paint.  I didn’t bother taping or anything because I could either replace the white board in the middle or just turn it around. Valentines Art Painted Frame_wmI actually ended up flipping the white board around because it was the perfect weight for what I wanted to do and it saved me having to cut paper.  From there, I just played around with different sizes and colors of buttons until I liked the design of my heart.Valentines Day Button Art_wmThen, it was glue time!  I glued my bottom button down and then worked from there to glue each of the buttons down along the heart.  Let the glue dry and you are done!Valentines Button Art2_wmValentines Day Artwork_wmValentines Button Art3_wm

Have you created any artwork using buttons recently? What kind of Valentine’s Day projects have you been working on?

This post is shared at the list of fabulous parties found here.
