Rustic Valentine’s Mantel & Garland

January 27, 2015 By Trina Miner Leave a Comment

valentine mantel

Did you know that there is a website where you can order an envelope full of glitter and a note. Then they send it to someone that you truly despise?

Let me introduce myself. I’m Trina Miner from A Few Miner Adjustments. By day, I am a reading teacher and by night, a blogger. I love cozy blankets, Friends reruns and anything DIY. I want to give a big shout out and thank you to Shannah for inviting me to be a monthly contributor. It is a thrill to be here with all of you!

Valentine Garland

O.K….back to the glitter~enemy~thing. When we first thought of this Valentine project, my cute little helper and I decided on glitter. As a teacher I love a good glitter project. However, I couldn’t imagine sending an envelope full of it to anyone. That is kind of cruel.

They would be finding glitter everywhere….

for.ever!

So we made a few Miner adjustments to the garland project.

Valentine's Collage

What you need:

  • Elmer’s glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper hearts in different sizes {I used my Cricut to make them}
  • Pieces of scrap plywood {left over from plank wall makeover}
    • Alternative: card stock
  • Twine/ Ribbon
  • Fun washi tape {I got mine from the dollar aisle of Target}
  • Drill

Steps:

  • Cut the pieces of wood into squares.
    • I didn’t measure them. I eyeballed it…I like that they are not all the same size
  • Drill 2 holes in each wood piece near the top
  • Glue hearts on the wood pieces
  • Add tape
  • Paint glue over the whole piece of wood
  • Thread the twine or ribbon through the holes
  • Space evenly to fit where they will hang

Even without the glitter, this little gem adds a touch of sparkle to any Valentine’s Mantel.
