An Aperol spritz is a crazy popular cocktail summer but not everyone loves the bitterness that Aperol adds to the drink. Enter the raspberry limoncello spritz which is a perfect replacement for someone who wants a little more fruit and a slight sweetness in their drink.

Continuing on my quest to prove there is a spritz for everyone, I’ve jazzed up the traditional limoncello spritz with some raspberries to make it extra delicious.

Why Youโ€™ll Love This Berry Limoncello Spritz

  • It tastes like summer in a glass!ย The combination of berries with the lemon flavor found in limoncello is a perfect match. Add ice and you have summer in a glass.
  • It is very easy to make!ย No need for a cocktail shaker or fancy glasses. Plus, you only need 4 ingredients (plus ice).
  • Mocktail Friendly!ย Replace the prosecco with sparkling water and use lemon simple syrup in place of the Limoncello and you’ve got a mocktail that is so delicious. Or, you can substitute your favorite non-alcoholic sparkling wine!
  • Balanced flavors.ย A little sweet, a little bitter, and perfectly bubbly.

What is a Spritz?

Very popular in Italy, a spritz is a low alcohol by volume (ABV) drink that is often enjoyed as an aperitif or as a light and refreshing drink during warm weather. Typically, a spritz combines sparkling wine or Prosecco with a bitter liqueur like Aperol. Of course, there are lots of liqueur options to try in place of Aperol for new spritz options.

Ingredients for Raspberry Limoncello Spritz

Ingredients for Limoncello Spritz recipe
  • Limoncello – This Italian liqueur is made from the zest of lemons, alcohol, water, and sugar. It usually has a vibrant yellow coloring and a bright, citrusy flavor.
  • Prosecco (or any dry sparkling wine)
  • Sparkling Water – If you don’t have this one hand, you can substitute with additional prosecco with only a minor change in the flavor.
  • Raspberries – Fresh or frozen work great. You can also substitute strawberries or blackberries here too.
  • Ice cubes
  • Garnish Options – Fresh mint, a lemon wheel, or additional berries all make great garnishes but are totally optional.

How to Make a Raspberry Limoncello Spritz

The first step for this recipe is getting the berries ready. If I am only making one or two drinks, I will muddle the raspberries with a little water but, if I am going to making several for a group, I will put the raspberries into a blender and pulse them a few times. The goal is to get a raspberry puree that will mix well into the spritz.

Once your raspberries are ready, the drink just requires a few simple steps!

  1. Start by adding ice to large glasses. I like a large stemmed wine glass (like these) but you can use stemless too.
  2. Add some of the raspberry puree to the glass.
  3. Add the Limoncello.
  4. Top with Prosecco and sparkling water (or just Prosecco). Stir gently and then add any garnishes.

Tips and Tricks for the Best Limoncello Spritz

  • You can use fresh or frozen raspberries. I find the frozen ones make a better puree but it isn’t necessary to free the berries for the drink to taste great.
  • Ensure your Prosecco and Limoncello are well chilled.
  • If you want the drink a little sweeter, you can add simple syrup (about 1/2 ounce) either to the raspberries when muddling or pureeing or to the glass just after adding the raspberry puree.
  • To make a batch version, combine the raspberry puree and Limoncello in a pitcher. When serving, pour over ice and top with Prosecco and sparkling water or club soda.
