A pumpkin spice latte is the quintessential coffee drink for fall. This is the perfect recipe for getting your pumpkin coffee with milk fix at home.

pumpkin spice coffee with milk

Pumpkin is everywhere during this time of year and I can’t get enough. But, my wallet doesn’t love daily stops at the local coffee shop to get a cozy fall drink. Instead of spending lots of money on pumpkin spice lattes at the coffee shop, I created this simple and delicious recipe to get my fix at home instead.

You’ll notice I use latte and coffee interchangeably throughout this post. A latte is espresso based while coffee would use brewed coffee. This recipe works with either so choose your favorite way to caffeinate.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Ingredients

ingredients for pumpkin spice latte
  • Brewed Coffee or Espresso – This recipe works best with freshly brewed coffee or espresso. I don’t recommend using espresso powder.
  • Milk – Choose your favorite milk. I’m an oat milk girlie but this recipe works great with any type of milk. Keep in mind that a skim milk won’t froth as well as thicker, creamier milk.
  • Pumpkin Spice Syrup – I like this recipe because it uses actual pumpkin puree. You can totally buy pre-made syrup online too though. Keep in mind that each syrup is slightly different in the sweetness level so start at the low end of the amounts and work your way up to your perfect level of sweetness.
  • Toppings – Whipped cream, pumpkin pie spice, ground cinnamon, and cinnamon sticks all make for perfect accompaniments.

How to Make Pumpkin Spice Coffee with Milk

This recipe is so simple! The full list of ingredients and steps to make this delicious fall coffee drink can be found in the printable recipe card below. Here is a quick overview of the steps:

steps to make a pumpkin spice coffee with milk or pumpkin spice latte
  1. Warm and froth the milk. This is my favorite handheld frother and this larger one is perfect if you don’t want to do it by hand. If you are using a handheld frother, be sure to warm the milk first as it will produce a better froth/foam that way.
  2. Add the coffee or espresso. Mix well.
  3. Stir in syrup.
  4. Add toppings and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions about Pumpkin Spice Coffee with Milk

What is the best type of coffee or espresso to use when making a pumpkin spice latte? I recommend using strong and bolder coffees or espressos, such as a medium or dark roast as they blend best with the spices.

How can I make my coffee or latte sweeter? You can add maple syrup, use additional pumpkin spice syrup, or stir in your favorite sugar or sugar substitute.

Can I use my favorite creamer instead of milk? This is possible but may change the flavor and consistency of the drink. I’d recommend an unflavored creamer if you’d prefer creamer instead of milk.

Can I make a large batch of pumpkin spice coffee? Yes you can! I recommend storing the prepared coffee prior to adding whipped cream to it. Just be sure to store it in a container with an airtight lid and use it within 3 days. In fact, making a larger batch would be perfect for the Fall and Winter holidays.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Variations

In addition to changing the type of milk used in the recipe, here are some other ideas to customize the drink to your preference:

  • Create an iced pumpkin coffee by adding ice to the drink after it is mixed. You could also swap in cold foam instead of whipped cream.
  • Blend the pumpkin spice latte with ice to create a frappe style drink.
  • Make spiked coffee by adding in an ounce of rum, bourbon, or even vanilla vodka.

This recipe makes the most delicious coffee drink that is perfect for fall mornings. With all its cozy flavors, you’ll be making this pumpkin spice coffee with milk on repeat all fall and winter.

The use of real pumpkin puree adds depth you just don’t get from store-bought syrups. It’s a great way to bring those fall café vibes home.

Oooh. I made this for breakfast, and it’s my new favorite! It’s fall in a cup, and I can get it without paying a zillion dollars at Starbucks!

LOVE. IT. What makes this so great is the simplicity of the ingredients. So many pumpkin spice coffees have some kind of odd flavor to them that tastes so fake and icky. This is great!
