Turkey and Black Bean Tacos

June 15, 2017 By Shannah Coe 5 Comments

I am so excited to partner with ALDI to share with you one of my family’s favorite recipes! While this post was sponsored, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Everyone who is a regular reader here knows we love tacos! From the traditional beef taco with a crunchy shell to a chicken, bacon and mango soft taco, I am pretty much down for making just about anything in taco form. Right now, I am totally obsessed with these turkey and black bean tacos.

Something else I am equally obsessed with is saving money on the food to make my tacos {and every other recipe I make}. While I love saving money on food, I am not willing to sacrifice quality. This is where ALDI comes in, offering exclusive brands that help you get top quality ingredients for lower prices. ALDI recently made a big move to remove any added MSG, certified synthetic colors and partially hydrogenated oils from ALDI exclusive food brands. Plus, ALDI taste tests all of their products multiple times throughout the year, so they can say from experience that they’re the same quality – or higher – than the national brands.

You may remember my hidden veggie sloppy joes or green bean casserole where I highlighted the differences between ALDI stores and my local grocery stores. With this recipe, I want to highlight the price differences between ALDI and a large nationwide retailer, Walmart. With Walmart becoming the go-to grocery store for so many people, it makes sense to show how ALDI compares to them both in price and quality. As you can see below, the same ingredients for this recipe are less expensive at ALDI but the quality is the same or higher. {Note: Both price totals include the soft shell tortillas and crunchy taco shells even if only one is pictured in the ingredients below.}

ALDI-comparison

The Fit & Active Lean Ground Turkey is almost a full dollar less expensive at ALDI than Walmart. Plus, the fresh herbs at ALDI are less expensive for a large volume of herbs. If you are buying ingredients for more than one recipe, the savings would definitely add up quickly.

Ingredients for Turkey and Black Bean Tacos:

Serves 6  /  Prep Time: 10 minutes / Cook Time: 20 minutes

1 tsp oil
1 lb Fit & Active Lean Ground Turkey
1 onion, finely chopped
1 package Casa Mamita Taco Mix
2/3 cup water
1 cup SimplyNature Organic Black Beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup cooked Roasted Red Pepper Earthly Grains Quinoa Blend
Pueblo Lindo Flour Tortillas
Casa Mamita Crunchy Taco Shells
Fresh cilantro
Chopped organic grape tomatoes
Pueblo Lindo Grated Cotija Cheese

Let’s Make It:

1. Heat oil in skillet over medium heat. Add ground turkey and cook, stirring to crumble, for 5-7 minutes. Add onion and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.

2. Stir in taco mix and water. Simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in black beans and quinoa. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.

3. Remove from heat and spoon filling into tortillas and/or taco shells. Top with fresh cilantro and grated cheese.

This recipe is the perfect weeknight meal! It is packed with protein thanks to the lean turkey and quinoa. Plus, it has tons of flavor. With the great prices and quality products at ALDI, you can make this and feed a family of 6 for only $1.67/serving (*price and availability may vary).

So, how is ALDI able to offer amazing quality products and still save their customers up to 50% on their grocery bill? At ALDI, they don’t offer non-essential store services, their stores are smaller and they focus on ALDI exclusive brands- with a few national brands mixed in. Along with little differences like stocking food in the boxes it comes in and the “borrow a cart” policy, all of these things add up to an easy-to-shop grocery store that offers big savings on great quality products.

Next time, when you head out to get groceries to make these turkey and black bean tacos, take a trip to ALDI to see how being such a unique grocery store has helped make them one of the fastest growing retailers in the US*.

First if all, yum. Secondly….love ALDI and I loved how you compared ALDI to Wal-Mart prices.

I love ALDI just as much as I love tacos – which is A LOT!

I like that side by side cost comparison. I have an Aldi right down the street but usually don’t think to go there! I need to start changing that.
