St. Patrick’s Day Wreath

March 5, 2014 By Shannah Coe 5 Comments

The brain is a funny thing.  In your mind, something could look totally amazing and be the.perfect.craft and then you make it and it is definitely NOT what you envisioned.  That totally happened to me yesterday but, instead of totally doing a new project, I decided I was going to share with you my St. Patrick’s Day wreath in all of its “glory” {insert saracasm}.St. Patricks Day Wreath with Label_wm
Talk about keeping it real…that is about as real as it gets. Sure, I’ve had bigger craft fails and made a lot of stuff that was probably way uglier. But, I’ve kept it to myself. 🙂

The creation of this wreath started when I discovered I had about 1000 striped green straws.  I loved my red stripe straw wreath so much that I decided a St. Patrick’s Day straw wreath would be awesome.  Throw in some clovers and we were good to go. Even as I was putting it together, my brain was going to “this is going to be awesome.”  Oh brain…how you play tricks on me…

Once it was all done, I sent a Facebook message to my friend Allyson proclaiming that I had made the ugliest St. Patrick’s Day wreath EVER!  Now, looking at it today, I was probably being a teensy bit dramatic but, let’s be honest, this baby ain’t winning any beauty awards.  Did I still hang it in my house?  Yep…sure did.St. Patricks Day Wreath_wmThis wreath has the components of a great St. Patrick’s Day wreath but just didn’t come together the way I really thought it would.  Hello too many different shades of green!St. Patricks Day Wreath Collage_wmOh well, there will always be next year.  Until then, I’ll keep my St. Patrick’s Day yarn wreath on the front door and this little guy hung inside where only my family has to witness the horror.

Have you experienced any crafting disappointments recently?

Haha…so true! I guess St. Patrick’s Day does have some tacky qualities so my wreath will fit right in. So instead of ugliest, I’ll label it as “tackiest” 🙂

I’m thinking if you bent the straws in a v-shape and overlapped them a lot so it made more of a border – or maybe cut a bunch in different lengths to fill in? I think the colors are actually kind of cute!

You are too kind! Great ideas though! I thought about filling the whole thing in with straws. Guess I still have time.
