Project Organization – The Family Room Toys

January 14, 2013 By Shannah 10 Comments

I was sitting in our family room the other day and noticed how messy it was.  In just about every corner, there were toys or remnants from Christmas.

We aren’t even going to talk about what is behind those toy cabinet doors. It makes me scared to even think about it!

I started by grouping all the like items together.

Then, I worked to get them organized into the toy cabinet and various baskets we keep around the room for toys.

I bagged up the items we were donating and the items that needed to be thrown away (broken, missing pieces, etc.)

And for the before and afters:

Have you been doing any organizing lately?

Thanks! I was a little surprised by how much work it was just to get it to this point. At least now I can find things in there! Good luck in your room.

I am sooo in the same boat! We have the Fisher Price racetrack too… I know my one year old loves it but it will not fit in or on anything! It’s always the one toy sitting out at our house too! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

My son adores that toy but, you are right, it doesn’t fit in anything! I even tried to put it in the storage ottoman but it was too tall. Oh well.

I’m on an organizational mission this month! I’m trying to organize the whole house– from top to bottom.

Doesn’t it feel SO good? I’m hoping that a little organization will make it easier to go after some of my goals this year!

That is a lot of donation/throw away items! It feels so good to get things in order, and I am always suprised at how much I have to throw away and give away! I love an organizational project!!

Love what you’ve done but does seem endless task to try and keep them in some sort of order that means they can get actually get played with.

That looks great! We have the same problem over here at our house with a one year old. We’ve cleaned off one shelf as a “toy shelf,” but we can’t do much other than that since we’re living at our in-laws and can’t move too much around. A lot of the toys just get shoved behind the baby gate. :/ But this inspires me to do better!
