Mother’s Day Gift in 30 Minutes: A Surprise Picnic

May 8, 2013 By Shannah 14 Comments

Mother’s Day is this weekend. Are you panicking or are you one of those people who’ve had your gift for weeks?  Or are you still searching for the perfect Mother’s Day gift?

Mathlete is pretty awesome at a lot of things…including waiting until the last minute on gifts/holiday plans. In his honor {especially since this was his idea for last year because he knows I adore picnics}, I give you the Mother’s Day plan you can throw together in 30 minutes.

Step 1:
Go to the grocery store. In under 15 minutes, you can come out with all your need for an awesome Mother’s Day picnic…and you won’t have to cook any of them!

Some ideas:
– Cheeses (Gruyere, Cheddar, Brie, Gouda are all popular choices)
– Charcuterie…grab some salami or prosciutto
– Bread (There is nothing like a fresh baguette)
– Fresh fruit…you can even get this pre-cut now at most stores which makes prep easy.
– A yummy sparkling juice or lemonade
– Plates/cups/napkins/flatware…that’s right, we are making this disposable too!

Step 2:
Find a blanket. Any large blanket will do but, if you have an actual picnic blanket, even better.

Step 3:
Pick a place for your event. It doesn’t have to be anywhere fancy and can even be a fun spot right in your own backyard.

Step 4:
Put it all together and call her outside for a surprise.

What do you do for Mother’s Day?  Are you a last minute planner or do you do stuff way in advance?

This sounds great! I love, love picnics! Now that it’s getting to be that time of year again, I’m glad you reminded me how easy it is to pull one together so quickly. Well done.

It is! I love the blood orange and the cranberry lime! Thankfully, Wegman’s is pretty close so I never have to go without 🙂

I love how easy it is to put together a picnic and, as long as family is involved, it doesn’t really matter where you hold it 🙂
