{Guest Post} Passionfruit Sorbet Frozen Custard

August 21, 2013 By Shannah Coe 2 Comments

Sorbet is one of those things that I love so much but never think to make on my own. Today, Sara is going to share a recipe for Passionfruit {yum} Sorbet Frozen Custard that I am desperate to try at home!

Howdy! I’m so grateful to Shannah at Just us Four for allowing me to guest post! Some of you may already know me, but in case you don’t, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sara, but I also go by the name of “Mrs Major Hoff”. I am a mama of 4 wonderful boys, the wife of a retired Army Officer, a lover of all things cute and crafty, and an attempter of DIY projects around the home. I started blogging in 2007 on our private family blog, and last year created my current blog: Major Hoff Takes A Wife. This blog features all the fun stuff I have going on while trying to maintain my sanity as I train 4 little boys to grow into respectable men (note, this is sometimes a losing battle!). If you want to follow my “behind the scenes” action the best place would be on instagram (where you can see lots of pics of my little stinkers), on twitter or Facebook (where you can judge how my sanity is holding up that day). I’d love to add you to my circle of friends!

Here is a picture of my wonderful little men, and the big man in my life that we took recently on a trip to Alaska.

See how they are all far away? That is because they actually have scowls on their faces. Yes, mommy had a bit of a freakout moment thinking that they might fall to their death while hiking this mountain. See that part in the background? We ended up hiking almost to the very top of that. I am not a lover of heights and when you add a bit of mama anxiety into the equation it doesn’t equal the finest family moment. See I told you that we live an adventurous life! LOL. But the pic is pretty darn cool!

For this guest post I thought I would share one of our new favorite recipes. Feedback is greatly appreciated, so if you do try it—Please drop me a line to let me know what you think! Thanks so much to Shannah! Enjoy!

Major Hoff Takes A Wife PassionFruit Sorbet Custard

I love ice cream. I come from a long line of ice cream conisours. Growing up we had an extra freezer in our garage, and at least half of the racks were full of some sort of frozen ice cream delight. My boys have now become accustomed to eating ice cream, with a weekly tradition of “Ice Cream Sunday”. There are so many delicious flavors out there, but sometimes in the heat of the summer, something light seems to fit the mood better.

Sorbets are fabulous in all their fruity glory, but somedays I really want something different. So while shopping in the mexican section of our local HEB grocery store, I came across Passionfruit juice and knew I had to make a sorbet with it. So after a bit of experimenting, I came up with the following recipe. It’s now a Hoff Family favorite, and I hope you will add it to your list as well.

Passionfruit Sorbet frozen custard

2 cups passionfruit juice
1 and 3/4 cups milk (we use 2% around here)
1 and 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream.
1/4 cup sugar
Limes, for garnish

Combine the first 4 ingredients in a 2 quart pitcher. After mixture is well mixed, pour into ice cream maker. Follow your machine’s instruction booklet. Ours takes about 25-30 minutes for this to become a nice thick, creamy consistency. Top with whipping cream and a lime wedge or slice, for a pretty presentation. This would go well in mini dessert holders. Enjoy!
What’s your favorite brand of non-traditional frozen custard?
