Easy Glitter Christmas Ornaments

November 20, 2014 By Shannah Coe 11 Comments

We are really into Christmas and literally change the decorations in pretty much every part of our home for Christmas.  We have about five Christmas trees of different sizes around the house.  We even take down artwork and put up Christmas decorations instead.  I’d probably change out pieces of furniture too if Mathlete wouldn’t give me a hard time about it!  This year, I decided to add a little Christmas sparkle to our paper mache tree and made some super easy glitter Christmas ornaments to hang on it.

For this craft, you’ll need a few supplies:
– some clear glass or plastic ornaments
– mod podge
– a spice funnel {optional but helpful}
– paint brushes
– glitter in your choice of colors

For the ornaments with the glitter on the outside, I simply painted the mod podge onto the places that I wanted the glitter to stick.

Then, over a plate or bowl, pour the glitter on top of the mod podge and shake off the excess.  Let sit to dry.

For the ornaments with the glitter on the inside, I just used a spice funnel and poured the excess glitter from making my other ornaments {i.e. the glitter in the bowl} into the ornament and put the cap back on.

Once all the ornaments are done, hang them in their new homes!  I only made a few at first so they found their home on the branches of our paper mache tree.  I have some of the unbreakable ones that I will be bringing out to make with H and they’ll go on our main Christmas tree.
**You can spray the outside of these to keep more excess glitter from coming off.  I just didn’t do that with these because I know they won’t be touched or moved very much.**

    So pretty and I bet I could get my son (5) to paint a picture with the glue and before it dries add the glitter. Thank you for the wonderful idea.

    What a fun post, providing so many fun ornament and decorating ideas! I’ve already bookmarked several for me and the kiddos to do this year! I think I’m most excited to try and make the Scented Gingerbread Ornament, I love that smell. Another fun one is Marble Ornaments! We’ve done in the past with clear ornaments and our favorite Christmas paint colors and not only was it fun but added some character to our décor.
