Halloween Recipes: Oreo Candy Corn Bark & Pumpkin Spice Rice Krispies

Each year, around mid-October, our neighborhood explodes with Halloween.  Entire blocks transform from regular houses into spooky haunted houses or fun places covered in pumpkins and candy corn.  We like to get a jump on all of this fun by making a few Halloween recipes and then Boo’ing our neighbors.

The first step to successfully Boo’ing your neighbors is always choosing an awesome printable!  I got mine from Swish Printables.  You can visit Donna and download your own too!  I print mine at home and then cut them out but you could easily send them to Staples.

Once you have your printables in hand, you need to decide what to Boo your neighbors with.  My favorites are always some kind of sweet treat that is perfect for Halloween.  For our Boo’ing this year, we did two:  Halloween oreo candy corn bark and pumpkin spice rice krispie treats.  {Recipes are below}

After you make your treats,  package them up and add your “We’ve Been Boo’d sign” and directions for what your neighbors should do to the package.

This year, since I had two different treats, I put the treats in these super cute pumpkin treat bags and then put both of those, along with my print outs, into a large bag.

I also printed out an extra copy of the We’ve Been Boo’d sign to put on the front of the bag.  That way, our neighbors wouldn’t be super suspicious if they just happened to see the random package on their steps one evening.

The last step is the delivery!  Lots of opinions exist on how to do this {ring and run, do it overnight, etc} but I’ll let you decide if you care if you’ve been seen or not!

So, you probably want those recipes, right?

Microwave for one minute and stir.  If all the chocolate chips don’t melt, microwave in 10 second intervals, stirring between each, until completely melted.  Stir in approximately 20 drops of yellow food coloring {add more if your chocolate isn’t the desired color yellow}.  Pour into prepared pan and spread out evenly.  Let sit for 15 minutes.

3)  Repeat microwaving step with two more bags of chocolate chips.  Using the “recipe” on the back, create the color orange desired by combining the red and yellow food coloring.  {Hint:  I tripled my box’s recipe.}  Pour on top of yellow layer and spread evenly.  Let sit for 15 minutes.

4)  In a large plastic bag, smash Oreos with the back of a spoon or rolling pin.

  1. First of all, if you are boo-ing your neighbors with treats then you must live in a pretty awesome neighborhood! People in my neighborhood are friendly, but not friendly enough to boo me. I’ve always dreamed of living in a neighborhood where everyone is friends, or is at least social.

    The treats looks so delicious! Would you be able to tell me where you get your pumpkin marshmallows from? I’m actually going to head over and check out the printables link, maybe make a little something for my kids classmates this Halloween 🙂

    1. Ashley – One of the things we adore about our neighborhood is how lcose everything is.

      The marshmallows came from Walmart. I have also seen them locally at our Target too.

  2. I love these little bags and both of the treats. I think my favorite would be the bark. Seems like I could break off the size I want and munch on it! Great idea with the layersing.

    1. Thanks! The bark is definitely one of those things that you can make into any size you want and munch on throughout the day.

  3. What beautiful photos! I never would have considered adding a pumpkin flavor- or even chocolate, for that matter- to Rice Krispy treats. And Oreo Candy Corn Bark? Genius!!

    1. You know…I didn’t know about the pumpkin spice marshmallows either! I stumbled upon them in the store one day and knew I had to use them.
