WTCW

November 2, 2011 By Shannah 1 Comment

Ok, I am taking a break from some crazy crafting to think about dinner!  That must mean it is What to Cook Wednesday time.

[Italian Food Forever], [Kalyn’s Kitchen], [Point-less Meals], [Framed Cooks]

Sunday:  Cold weather has definitely started to set in which means heartier meals are a must.  Olive harvest soup sounds like a delicious way to start the week.

Monday:  Mondays are almost always crockpot days right now.  I’m going to give Crockpot sweet and spicy turkey a try this week.

Tuesday:  A chili pot pie?  Sold!

Wednesday:  I’m going to work in a little Mexican this week with Mexican meatball soup.

[Julia’s Healthy Italian], [Crystal and Company], [Gina’s Skinny Taste]

Thursday:  Roast chicken with citrus glaze in about 30 minutes sounds like a dream come true.

Friday:  Italian pasta casserole sounds like the perfect mixture of pasta and cheese for my family.

Saturday:  The kiddos love chicken sausage so I am going to give roasted potatoes with chicken sausage a try.

Happy Cooking!

WTCW

October 5, 2011 By Shannah Leave a Comment

As promised, a look at what (if anything) from WTCW we cooked.  Since WTCW goes from Sunday – Saturday, today’s look would be at the items from the September 21st WTCW.  It took me some serious higher level math to figure that out 😉

How did we do?  Better than expected!  We traded the Stuffed Peppers with Quinoa for some Thai take-out on an impromptu date night.  The buffalo chicken sandwich didn’t make it into our rotation either but was replaced by some random frozen meal from our freezer…clearly not memorable since it didn’t score a picture.

I figure 5 out of 7 days cooking “on plan” isn’t bad!
Favorite dish of the week?  Hands down the Sausage Apple Pie.  I used a frozen crust and it was so quick to throw together.  Seriously, grab some apples and go make this now!

Let’s see what’s on the menu for this coming week…

[Whole New Mom], [Extreme Personal Measures], [The Farm Girl], [Simple Daily Recipes]

Sunday:  I love curry.  You could curry just about anything and I would probably eat it.  My kids…not so much.  Enter this recipe for a ground beef based curry.  It sounds so delicious and possibly kid friendly enough to score me win.

Monday:  Mathlete and H would probably eat pizza every day if given the opportunity.  I saw these Pizza Puffs on a link party the other day and quickly added them to my list.

Tuesday:  The other white meat makes another appearance but this time with a yummy peach salsa on top.

Wednesday:  My slow cooker needs a work-out so Spicy Chicken Stew is on my list for this week.  It sounds perfect for our steadily decreasing temps.

[The Kitchn], [Steamy Kitchen], [Framed Cooks]

Thursday:  Another fall treasure: apples.  Tuna and apple sandwiches sound really yummy.

Friday:  Where’s the beef?  In Black Pepper Steak, that’s where!

Saturday:  Pasta makes a rare Saturday appearance in Cheese Ravioli with Toasted Walnuts.

I’d love to hear in the comments if you’ve made any of WTCW features!  Or, do you have a recipe to recommend?  Tell me that too!

WTCW!

September 14, 2011 By Shannah 1 Comment

It’s time again to make your stomach growl and your mouth water!  Oh, and maybe help you out a little with your dinner plans for the next week.

[The Kitchn], [Simple Daily Recipes], [Mango & Tomato], [Point-Less Meals]

Sunday:  Fall is hitting fast which means lots of stews, braised meats and other comfort foods in our house.  French Onion Chicken with Gruyere sounds like a perfect way to usher in the cooler temperatures.

Monday:  Sausage and Bean Stew is a simple hearty meal that will warm from the inside out.  I’ll probably try to figure out a way to make this crockpot friendly so it cuts down on my meal prep time.

Tuesday:  I wasn’t kidding when I said I love stews and soups in the fall because I also have Coconut Lentil Soup on my must try list for the week.

Wednesday:  I figure my family will probably tire of soups pretty quickly if I don’t mix in a meat dish like Pork Chops with Apples.

[The Farm Girl], [Laylita], [The Pioneer Woman]

Thursday:  Fall is a great time for grilling because it means not standing in front of a 400 degree grill when it is already 100 degrees outside.  I’ll throw some Thai Orange Beef Skewers on the grill and let them cook while the kids play on the swingset.

Friday:  Pasta day keeps moving around from week to week.  Love the mushrooms in this one even though I know Mathlete will pick them out!

Saturday:  I love homemade pizza and the “make your own” concept goes over well in our household (provided Junior comes and rolls the dough!).  I have my eye on making a Steakhouse pizza for this round of the pizza feast.

Thanks for including my soup in the round up! Definitely let me know what you think of it when you make it (and do double up the amount of spices).

WTCW

Happy Hump Day! (it’s ok, i’ll give you a moment to embrace your inner beavis and snicker) It’s Wednesday and so you know what that means…What to Cook Wednesday time!

Sunday:  We (I) grocery shop on Sunday and so any fish or seafood dishes will typically be made the same day.  Lemon Garlic Shrimp sounds like a very summery treatment for the shrimp that are on sale this week!

Monday:  Mexican is never turned down in our household.  The beans in Tortilla and Black Bean Pie make it a fantastic veggie option too!

Tuesday:  As we approach winter, I am slowly adding to my freezer stash of meals.  I’ll make a double portion of Chicken with Dijon Glaze so I can cook one and freeze the other.

Wednesday:  For some unknown reason, Wednesdays are always our busiest days!  Quick Skillet Steak with Onions is a good way to get dinner on the table fast.

Thursday:  As usual, my crock pot won’t go unloved this week.  I’m going to give this Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff a try.

Friday:  Another breakfast for dinner night with Chorizo Chicken Sausage with Peppers and Eggs.

Saturday:  I love Saturdays because they usually mean I have more time to put into a meal.  I think I will spend my time making Creamy Spinach Barley Risotto.

Have you made any of the WTCW recipes recently? If so, be sure to come back and share how it went! I’ll be working to take pictures of some of the ones I make in the future and sharing them here.
