Who’s Who in the Zoo

I am sure you’ve heard the saying that fences make good neighbors. Or, perhaps that neighbors can make/break a home.  Fortunately, I can’t attest to the former but can 100% confirm the latter because we’ve had the great fortune to have some of the best neighbors ever in both of the homes we’ve lived in.  In fact, these people are so great that you’ll probably hear about them all the time (we tend to spend a fair bit of time with them!).  To keep everyone straight about here, I figured the easiest thing to do was to “introduce you” to the people that you’ll hear about the most around.  Afterall, while just us four may live in the house currently, we have an open door policy for all of these folks and love it when they come around!**

First up, we’ll start with the easy people…they are not our neighbors but they are our family.

Here is my mom and dad. Around here they are: Mom and Dad. Clever, right?! I’m here all week!

Next up, is the other mom and dad set, Mathlete’s parents.  They are conveniently called Mom(2) and Dad(2).

Oh, and you’ve met my “sister” and her family.  Now, I know they don’t really qualify to be in the category if you take something silly like genealogy into account but we consider them family just like our parents/biological siblings. I gave them the opportunity to pick their own names and one of them decided to have fun with it. So, here is Stud Scallion (we are pretty positive C called his dad this while at the beach!), Junior (a.k.a. Ms. Scallion…she’s like a foot smaller than Mr. Scallion) and C (a.k.a. mini-scallion).

Now, let’s move onto the neighbors/extended family folks.

When we were house hunting and visited our current house, it was the dead of winter.  In fact, the week we were originally supposed to close brought over 12” of snow!  Needless to say, we didn’t get much of an opportunity to check out our neighbors while shopping for the house.  We did, however, get to check out their license plates!  Both cars in the driveway had Virginia Tech license plates on them so we figured they couldn’t be but so bad.  Then, spring came and we met them.  Boy, were we wrong.  They weren’t just ok…they were AWESOME.  Our kids get along great (they have 2…one very close to H’s age) and, thankfully, so do we!  Meet: Rock Boy (the dad), Shop-a-holic (the mom), JB (the daughter) and soccer shot (the son).

Now, we would have felt pretty good about scoring one set of really great neighbors in our move.  In a rare (like lightning never strikes twice in the same place sort of way) occurrence, we scored a 2nd set of really awesome neighbors too.  They come with a playmate for H (although she is slightly older) and one for E too! I don’t have any clever names for these folks just yet (What can I say? I used it all up with Mom and Dad!) So, meet: Mr. and Ms. Beergarita (their name comes from the amazing drink they throw together for a lot of events!). They have two kids, Big T and Dancer Girl, but I haven’t managed to capture either on camera just yet.

So, there you have it.  Those are the folks that you’ll see mentioned most often around here.  They are the day to day people in our lives.

**I know this is a post about the people that you’ll see and hear about most often on here but I do want to say that, in addition to these fabulous family and friends, we have a bunch of other really great people in our lives.  I mean we are truly blessed to know some absolutely amazing people.  So, if you are reading this (you know who you are!), know that, even though you might not see your name listed here,  you are still so important to us and we appreciate your friendship! I just tried to limit this to the people that we see/talk to pretty much every day and so would infiltrate be mentioned a lot here in the blog.**
