Washi Tape Wreath for July 4th

June 18, 2013 By Shannah 30 Comments

This has definitely been the year for July 4th crafting around our house.  Maybe it is because I actually paid attention to the calendar and got started when I wanted to but I have really enjoyed sharing differents ways to celebrate July 4th {like marshmallows, ribbon wreaths and wooden firecrackers} with you all.
Today’s project: a washi tape wreath for July 4th.

I will be totally honest and tell you that this wreath started months ago for a totally different purpose…not July 4th related at all!  Then, I saw some super cute washi tape and decided to switch gears on the wreath a little bit.   I knew I wanted a combination of red, white and blue and I was thrilled when I found some washi that came with stars and stripes too.

I started with one of the large MDF wreath forms and a bunch of cheap clothespins.  I wrapped the wreath form in ribbon {just a habit} and then I simply super glued the clothespins around the wreath.

Once the clothespins were attached, I added the washi tape to the front.  My washi was wider than my clothespins so I had to trim each piece with my Xacto knife to make them fit.

I swiped a little bit of Mod Podge on top of the washi tape on each clothespin to make sure it stayed.

Then, I hung the wreath using a scarf I found at the dollar store.

The wreath was so simple to put together but definitely required some dedication to sit there and trim all that washi tape! Next time, I think I will look for smaller washi tape to avoid all that trimming.

Have you been doing any crafting or cooking for July 4th?  Or, maybe you’ve been working with washi tape on something totally non-July 4th related?

You can find the list of great parties I link up to each week here.

Fabulous wreath! I love the tapes you used on the clothespins, especially the tape with the stars. I’m pinning this to my patrioti pins board. I think this is one of my favorite patriotic wreaths!!

I just stumbled upon the wrath form at one point. They aren’t with the straw or styrofoam wreath forms.

I love how many options there are for washi tape. It makes the possibilities for a wreath like this endless.

What a fun way to use Washi Tap. I have to admit, I don’t do a lot with tape, but after seeing this fun project, I am going to have to change my ways. Thanks!

Oh, washi tape is so much fun! I use it all the time and even let my kids keep a few rolls in their supplies. That way, I never have to worry about finding real tape stuck to tables and walls 🙂
