Easy Mod Podge Christmas Decoration

December 9, 2013 By Shannah Coe 7 Comments

Christmas decorating is pretty much my favorite thing to do in our home each and every year.  It takes me at least a week to get everything out and I am always looking to add new things to our existing items.  Of course, I am also looking to keep our spending in check so I find myself making things a lot more than I used to.  Plus, I am pushing myself to work with new craft tools or ones that I’ve been pretty unsuccessful with in the past.  I knew I wanted to add some more Christmas words to our decor so I created this easy mod podge Christmas decoration one afternoon.
Easy Mod Podged Christmas Words #ChristmascraftsYou will only need a few supplies for this project and you probably already have most of them at home.
Tools Needed_wm– Letters to spell your word.  Mine we made out of chipboard but you could use mdf, wood, etc.
– Scrapbook paper
– Exacto knife
– Mod Podge
– Paint brush

To coordinate with some of the other items in our home like my scrapbook paper Christmas word art, I chose the letters to spell Noel.  It probably helped that The First Noel is one of my favorite Christmas songs too.
Chipboard Letters Noel_wmI started by laying my paper down on top of the letters and securing it with tape.  Securing it is totally optional {which is why I didn’t list tape as a supply above} but I found it helped me when I was cutting.  Next, using the Xacto knife, cut the paper to match the shape of your letters.
Paper Outline with Label_wmOnce your paper is cut to match your letters, brush a thin layer of mod podge onto the actual letter and place the scrapbook paper letter over top. Smooth the letter out and let dry.

Once dry, brush another layer of mod podge on top of the scrapbook paper and let dry. I use the matte mod podge but the regular or gloss would look great too.
