Rainbow Barbie Party

August 14, 2013 By Shannah Coe 32 Comments

Happy August! I can’t finally breathe so I am able to say that August is indeed happy. If you are a long time reader {or know me in person}, you know that my kids decided to truly challenge their mother by being born 2 days apart. Well, technically, 2 days shy of exactly 3 years apart but you get the idea…their birthdays are thisclose together. My parents live a good drive away so we always put the birthday parties in the same weekend even though it borderline kills use each year. This year, we started the weekend off with H’s rainbow barbie party {obviously she picked the theme}!

We can’t hang stuff on the walls of the pool room so I had to improvise to be able to still use the awesome banner!

Every year, around January, H comes up with her “theme” and, let me tell you, they are getting more and more interesting each year.  This year, she decided she wanted a rainbow barbie party and I promptly panicked.  I’d seen Barbie and I’d seen rainbow but never together.  So, this party truly became about WHO you know and what you know because I emailed Donna and begged for some help.  And she totally delivered!

Obviously these are proofs 🙂

From there, all the rest of the party details just kind of fell into place.  We tried to really keep with the rainbow theme all along the way with hints of Barbie too.  I will let the pictures do most of the talking from here 🙂

rainbow barbie marshmallow treats

You can’t have a rainbow party without rainbow food. We used fruity pebbles to make rainbow marshmallow treats.

We decorated the tables with alternating rainbow colored plates.  Then, each place setting got a favor box, a colored straw and a tube of rainbow colored gum balls.

For the favor boxes, I had Donna create these little Barbie heads which I had printed on sticker paper and made a Barbie rainbow on each box.

One challenge we always have with H’s party is the room at the pool.  It is very basic which makes it hard to really decorate.  We were able to hang a few decorations in the entry way this year though.

Then, we had two food tables filled with all kinds of treats.

I wasn’t fast enough with my pictures because these were gone in a flash.

The cake was made by a local baker and I was so in love from the moment I saw it!

Of course, the real star of the show was the pool.

Whew…I am exhausted just thinking about that party again 🙂  Everyone had a great time though which is what matters most.

sooooo cute! I did a rainbow party for my daughter’s 5th birthday and they are so.much.fun. I still catch myself to this day (almost 6 months later) finding rainbow things thinking “that would work amazing on her party” only to remember it’s over 🙁

I’d love it if you linked up with our party this week!

The rainbow party was so much fun. Long after I had all my supplies I kept seeing things that would be perfect! I had to really keep myself in check to keep from buying everything!
Did you blog about your daughter’s party? I would love to see it.

Gorgeous party! That cake is amazing! I made the mistake of looking at this with my 4 year old next to me… she wants a party like this immediately, but her birthday’s in March. She’s gonna be waiting for a while. 🙂

Haha…I know the feeling. My daughter saw me looking at a different party and is already thinking about her party next year…in August! If you decide to go the rainbow barbie route with your daughter, be sure to chat with Donna from Swish Printables. She was absolutely awesome and came up with the entire invitation and printables design from scratch.
