I am very blessed to have several fantastic moms in my life. Most of my friends have taken the mommy plunge and my neighborhood does a great job at trying to make friends out of mommy neighbors. Most of all, I have two very important moms in my life: my own and my husband’s mother. Yep, I actually have a mother-in-law I like! I know that is a rarity if you believe most of the horror stories you hear/read when dating and planning your wedding but great mother-in-law’s do exist.

In addition to having a pretty great mother-in –law, I also have a really great mom! She doesn’t live as close as I’d like and I don’t visit as often as she’d like but we have a relationship that works. I hope when my children are older that they think about me the same way I think about her.

From what I can tell, my kids do have some positive thoughts about me now…or at least they pretend to when their dad is around. Yesterday, I had a splendid day all made possible by my family! I slept in thanks to a toddler who decided that her wake-up time for the special day would be 9:30am.  I awoke to one of my favorite things thanks to Mathlete Husband:

Then, chaos ensued. A surprise was planned but we were running behind (what family with 2 kids isn’t running behind?!). So, our relaxed morning became rather fast paced to make it out of the door in time. Why were we on a time table…oh, my “sister” and her family were going with us to the surprise! She didn’t know any details either but we hopped in the car and headed off.

Our first stop was this great little sandwich shop/market in a nearby town.

S and I both thought: “Oh, a nice little al fresco lunch is great!” Then, we were told to get it to go. Ok, then. We ordered, got out food and headed to surprise-part II.
It was a gorgeous day so the men (and kids) had planned a picnic lunch for us…courtesy of the Market Salamander chefs of course because packing a picnic at home would have given away the surprise. We grabbed a picnic table and put out blankets next to it for lounging. Lots of lounging, wine drinking and kid playing began!
My mother’s day fun didn’t end there though! Next on the list of items “to do” was a nap! We followed that up by one of my favorite things to do: entertaining. Yep, I chose to cook for 7 adults, 4 children and 1 baby on Mother’s Day! It was my own little version of heaven…especially since I didn’t have to do clean up!

Hopefully, moms everywhere had as great of a day as I did!
