And She Thinks We’re Just Eating Snacks #RealFruitBar

November 7, 2013 By Shannah Coe 46 Comments

Collective Bias DisclosureFor the past few months, I’ve been focusing on eating healthier and really paying attention to what goes in my mouth.  Sure, I want to lose weight but I also just want to lead an overall healthier lifestyle.  Unfortunately, my sweet tooth didn’t magically disappear when I started on this healthier eating venture.   Each night, my daughter loves to have a little something sweet with me after dinner.  Eating snacks together is our time to hang out and talk about our day.  I like to make sure we choose options that are sweet AND healthy so that I am instilling good habits in her from a young age.  My last trip to Walmart introduced me to a new snack that we have been enjoying this month: Edy’s Outshine Fruit Bars.
#shop Outshine Fruit Bar Box_wmThese fruit bars are, in a word, amazing.  They are made with real fruit or fruit juice and contain zero high-fructose corn syrup.  Plus, most of them are fat free which is a win for my waistline.

I was craving something sweet the other day so we decided to have our fruit bars with a little chocolate added for some extra sweetness.#shop Outshine Bars with Chocolate Drizzle_wmMy daughter, being only six, tends to get pretty messy when it comes to frozen snacks like this so I like to give her a little cup to catch the juice.  We just cut a small slit into cupcake liners and slide it right over the stick of the fruit bar.#shop Hole in Cupcake Cup_wmEven when it is chilly outside, we sit by the window in her playroom and enjoy our fruit bars.  Spending time with her and listening to all she has to say about her day and the world is probably one of the best parts of my day.  She talks about all the things she has learned, what her friends are doing and even sings a funny song sometimes.  It may be cloudy and gray {or even dark} outside by the time we get to our snack but the time we spend together…bonding…is our time to shine.  Plus, I know I am instilling a love of the taste of fresh fruits and juices for snacks over processed foods and less healthy choices.  Of course, she thinks we’re just eating snacks.#shop Fruit Bar with Label_wm

I have loved these fruit bars for years, even before they were rebranded to Outshine. I ate them all the time while pregnant with my son and have continued to eat them even as we approach the winter months. I literally just bought two boxes of them on my last trip to the grocery store. I hadn’t even thought to douse them with chocolate. Very creative idea! I’ll have to try it out some time.

I love those kind of fruit bars because they last a long time and it makes it seem like it was a bigger snack than it was. 🙂 I also love to crunch on an apple and munch on popcorn. They last a while too!
