We all have them…special people in our lives who are nearly impossible to shop for.  The father who buys himself everything…the grandmother who already has everything…the wonderful au pair who you know will eventually have to get anything you give back to their home country and is limited on suitcase space.   You can probably guess that last one is me!  Maya has been with us since July and she is beyond wonderful.  Seriously, I could go on and on.  As I was searching for gift ideas for her, I knew that what I chose needed to be special like her but also on the smaller side to make it easy to get back to Germany when the time came.

I looked high and low in all the usual places.  Gift giving gets tough when you don’t have any ideas at the ready.  Then, I discovered WE’VE Built which is a community of artisans and designers who hand make your gift.  A special handmade gift that you can’t find in any store seemed perfect for this special person in our life.  I saw some beautiful jewelry items so I took a minute to think about the clothes she typically wears.
Then, I found the perfect necklace that would go with pretty much anything she would wear!

WE’VE Built is a little different because, for any given item, you have to wait for the minimum threshold to be reached before the item is produced.  You can easily see how far a product has to go before it reaches its goal within the 21 day time frame though so you can definitely tell which gifts are likely to be produced.  It is so neat to read about the artisans and designers of the products.  Plus, there are video stories about the artisans and and buyers too.  It truly is a unique concept in product design and selling.  Every piece has a story which fits perfectly into the story you want to tell with your gift.

I was so excited to received the necklace I chose for Maya and give it her.  When it came in the mail, I packaged it up in a cute little gift bag and wrote her name on it.  I had originally planned to wait until Christmas but I just couldn’t!

Even though it wasn’t really a Christmas gift but more of a “thank you for everything you do” sort of gift I still went with a red and white bag since it is December 🙂  The necklace looks awesome and she loves it 🙂  Now, maybe for Christmas I should look into getting her an outfit to go with the necklace 😉
PicMonkey CollageI love seeing the joy on someone’s face when you give them a gift they love.  WE’VE Built definitely offered options that I just couldn’t find in regular stores and made this particular gift buying so much easier!  So, if you are searching for the perfect gift for the impossible person to shop for on your list, check out WE’VE Built for some incredible items with super neat stories behind them.

  1. The necklace you choose for her is so lovely!

I like the idea of supporting artisans like this, and giving them a platform to sell their creations. What a fabulous idea.

    1. Thanks! I love the idea of WE’VE Built because it provides us access to artisans we may not be able to find otherwise.

  2. ok i haven’t heard of this before
i’m sure it’s kind of hard to wait for something to start being produced but that also means the person who’s making them doesn’t have to make a lot and hope they sell them!! really neat concept

    1. I like the idea of them waiting until they hit a threshold to start making them. It helps them stay in business because they don’t get stuck with a ton of unsold merchandise.

  3. I love supporting small-scale artisans, so I would really love to check out this website. What a great job you did at picking the perfect item for Maya! My family all lives very far away from me, so I have to ship back any gifts I receive while I’m visiting them. So often, they forget this and I end up spending a hundred bucks to ship back presents. That was thoughtful of you to take that into consideration before deciding on a gift! 🙂
