Get Your Game On – Yogurt Granola Parfaits

March 13, 2014 By Shannah Coe 4 Comments

March is here and that means tons {yes, TONS!} of basketball is about to hit your TV.  Unlike football though, these games will be on at all times of the day, so you need to be prepared with lots of different food options to enjoy while watching the big games!  Now, most of the time, game-day food includes things like wings, burgers and bacon.  That is kind of heavy for a 10 a.m. game though.  Plus, a lot of women watch basketball and really get into the tournament, so some lighter food is always appreciated.  Don’t worry though…Keeping those early games in mind, I created some yummy yogurt parfaits that would be perfect!

The key to making sure you have some awesome food on hand for tournament season is to shop smart!  Right now, Food Lion ® has an awesome promotion going, where you get $5 off your next shopping trip just for buying 10 specially marked General Mills items between March 3rd and March 16th. The $5 coupon will be printed out at the register when you check out!  I know you are thinking “10 items!” but the list of eligible items is HUGE and filled with stuff you would normally be buying anyways, and are also perfect for prepping for game day.

I braved a major snow storm that hit here to stock up on some groceries.

I grabbed some delicious cereal and yogurt along with a few other items {my daughter loves fruit snacks} on my recent shopping trip.

At home, I combined the Yoplait® yogurt and Fiber One® cereal with some fresh fruit to make a yogurt parfait that is perfect for mid-morning snacks, while watching to see who will progress to the next bracket in the tournament!  You could also serve it as a light dessert for the later evening games too. It is so versatile!  Oh, and if you are sneaking the morning games in at the office {shhh…I won’t tell}, these items travel so easily that you can totally throw it together at your desk.

6 oz strawberry flavored yogurt
¼ cup granola cereal
1 strawberry, sliced

1)  In a small bowl, add half of the yogurt.

2)  Top yogurt with all but one strawberry slice and 3 Tbsp of granola cereal.

3)  Top cereal with remaining yogurt.  Sprinkle with remaining 1 Tbsp of cereal and add final strawberry slice.

I love yogurt parfaits…these sound delicious! We don’t have any Food Lions near us, but seeing as I am at home all day right now I guess I will be watching more basketball (and yelling at the tv), so I might add some yogurt/cereal to my hubby’s shopping list! (Yup…that’s right…my husband does the grocery shopping! He’s a great man…) 🙂
