A Food Blogger’s Battle

July 15, 2014 By Shannah Coe 1 Comment

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hot Shot® Insecticides.

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. If I am not cooking dinner for my family or creating recipes to share here, I am chasing around my kids during their multiple snack times throughout the day. All of those things lead to one major battle: keeping food off the floor and our house free of ants. My oldest is 6 and does a pretty good job of keeping most of her snack on the plate. My youngest, though, things that all food should end up on the floor at some point.

Think I am kidding? Check out what our floor looks like after pretty much any snack…these were the items he thought were meant for throwing and then promptly stepped on. Blueberry juice and crushed Pirate Booty for the win!

I do all the usual stuff like wiping up and vacuuming the floors after meals and snacks but sometimes it just isn’t enough. I’ll be working and here a panicked “mommy, there’s an ANT” come from our oldest when she is in the kitchen.

I don’t do bugs…of any type. They gross me out. Plus, ants never travel alone which means one will quickly equal thousands if we don’t act quickly. The first few are usually scout ants and they tip off their peeps as to whether or not my house is the place to call home. We’ve tried lots of different methods but our most recent one has been using Hot Shot® Insecticides.

Since I have two young kids, I don’t use a lot of spray products in our house and I can’t really set out little traps because my youngest would surely find them. So, I picked a day when I knew everyone would be gone for awhile to be safe and then I starting killing me some ants!

As always, it is important to read the directions on the can. The Hot Shot® Insecticides spray can be used to spray directly on ants that you see but is also good way to help protect from future ants to spray ways they may enter your home. My biggest problem area is the sliding door in our kitchen. It is just too tempting for ants between the crumbs and that door. So, I made sure to treat that area.

I was happy to see that the spray killed the couple of ants we already had and felt so much better about knowing I had treated the other places too. The spray doesn’t mean I get to stop vacuuming and wiping up messes but it is a great second line of defense to help me out. I don’t feel comfortable with bugs in my home and I never want to let bugs feel at home in my house!

I need to get my hands on some of this! I am super paranoid about bugs too, and it seems like little ones have been popping up here and there! Thanks for sharing 🙂
