Father’s Day Tool Wreath

May 20, 2013 By Shannah 19 Comments

Dads are special people.  Mine {especially before I was married} was my go to for any kind of fix it related question.  In my mind, he could/can build/fix/design anything I could/can envision.  These days, I may go to Mathlete first but I often chat with my dad about any project too.  There have definitely been many a phone call from me to him while I am standing in the middle of a Lowe’s aisle.
So, of course, a plain old gift or decoration just won’t do to recognize him on Father’s Day.  Instead, I combined the gift and decoration into one

In our house, there are two things Mathlete is almost always looking for when are working on a project: his screwdrivers and paint brushes.  Now, in reality, I am probably the reason those things are missing because I’ve used them and not put them back BUT we won’t tell him that…mmmkay?  Since those are hot commodities in our house, I felt like it was probably the norm for most houses.  Plus, I am sure my dad wouldn’t turn away an extra screwdriver or two 🙂
So, it just made sense to build this tool wreath around them.

First, I started with a wreath form and wrapped it in every man’s favorite thing

Crazy all the awesome options there are now…used to be you could just get plain ole black.

Once my wreath was wrapped up tight in its denim,  I started adding tools using a combination of zip ties {another man favorite} and glue {don’t worry…I only glued the metal part of the brush}

I used a zip tie for the hanger at the top too.

H wanted to make her daddy a wreath too so I turned her loose with another wreath form.  She was in love with the tape so we ended up making the banner out of white tape.

Yes, I did the writing but the design and implemenation was all hers.

Have you got a plan in the works for your dad yet?  Father’s Day is coming so fast so it is definitely time to get started.  Be sure to check out these ten gift ideas for dad if you need a little inspiration.
