Basement Reno: Jackhammer Away

May 15, 2012 By Shannah 5 Comments

We’re moving full steam ahead on the basement renovation. Mathlete has been super busy down there and I have been bugging him by sticking the camera in his face anytime I can get enough daylight for decent pictures.

The most recent development down there has been accomplished with the help of our good friend, Mr. Licensed Plumber!  Even though Mathlete was confident he could probably do the work himself, we both felt way more comfortable having someone with a TON of experience come and do all of the plumbing.

The first thing was moving the existing rough-ins.  With the way we designed the basement bathroom, the existing rough-ins just didn’t work well.  Here is a picture of where the rough-ins were originally

That pretty much put the toilet right in the middle of the bathroom.  Weird, right?

So, we called up the plumber and he did this to my floor

Yes, we actually paid someone to do that…crazy!  We moved the toilet piece so that it was closer to the wall.  We also relocated the part for the tub/shower a little bit.  MUCH smaller hole for that.

We got the holes inspected this week and now we are good to cover them back up again.

Tearing giant holes in my floor isn’t the only thing the plumber worked on though.  We also got a lot of pipes run for the bathroom.

Those are the pipes that will run to the sink in the bathroom.

We got a few pipes over near the bar too for the sink and dishwasher.

Exciting, huh?  Yeah, it is a little hard to get excited about pipes right?  I just keep thinking about what those pipes lead to though and I get really excited.

Next installment of “As the basement reno continues”: the beginnings of my CRAFT room! YAY!
