Basement Reno: Come Tile Away

August 7, 2012 By Shannah 11 Comments

We’re at a point in our basement finishing project where we do a lot more shopping than actual working. No complaining here!

We went tile shopping a few weeks ago to try and finalize some selections for the bar floor, bathroom wall and floor tiles.

Our first {and turned out only} stop was The Tile Shop which is fairly close to our house. Whoa…that place is like a tile mecca. Of course, I’ve never shopped for tile before at anywhere other than Home Depot or Lowes so please take that into account.

The store has rows and rows of tiles.

They also have these neat little bathrooms, bars, kitchens, etc. set up around the store so you can see the products in a real setting.

We walked around for awhile and I snapped pictures of things I thought were neat.

Then, we narrowed it down a little more and grabbed a salesperson to help us. They were wonderful and ran laps around the store grabbing suggestions to pair with the items we’d brought in that our tiles would need to coordinate with (i.e. countertop backsplash).

So, what did we choose?

Our bathroom wall tile will be Capua Blanco

We will also do an eye level listello with this {called Glass Myst Blend}

The floor in the bathroom will be these awesome hexagon tiles {Hampton Carrara Hex 2″} with a gray grout

You can kind of see it on the floor of this model bathroom

Over in the bar area, we’re doing travertine tiles on the floor. We had already picked out our countertop and backsplash so we really wanted something that would coordinate with that well. We went with Claros Silver

**I wasn’t paid or perked to mention The Tile Shop. We just happened to find stuff we liked there when shopping.**

Wow, so pretty! This made me want to go tile shopping! We have a couple bathrooms that will need it as well as the kitchen backsplash, so it wouldn’t hurt to start scouting it out, right? 🙂 Fun stuff.

What a fun trip – such pretty tiles to look at. I am about to embark on a trip to “tile row” tomorrow to select tile for the mud room we’re working on. Thanks for the inspiration!

Appreciate your linking up on Show & Tell at SNAP!

    xoxo, Tauni

    Hi there,
Do you happen to have finished pictures of your bathroom using your tile sections? I found you via a google search for Hampton Carrara and realized you pulled some of the exact tiles I’ve been eying myself at the Tile Shop in Des Moines. I’m curious how the Capua Blanco ended up coordinating with the Carrara.
    Thanks!

Let me see if I have some. If not, I can always take some. I love how it turned out…it is one of my favorite rooms in the house because of the tile.
