Ways to Reuse: Turn an Easter Basket into a Book Crate

I have an admission to make: I am terrible at keeping things. I’m rarely sentimental and I get on a cleaning/organizing streak and tend to do mass donations without really thinking about what might be a part of them. For that reason, my kids have never had the same Easter basket from year to year.
BUT, I started about two years ago making their Easter baskets work double duty. Gone are the adorable little woven baskets you get from Target that get one use before heading to Goodwill.
We have so many books in our house that I am always looking for ways to corral them. So, this year, I decided I would get some of the awesome unfinished wood crates from Michaels and use them as an Easter basket before making them book crates.
I started with the unfinished basket and painted them. E’s is solid blue and H’s is alternating between hot pink and orange.
Once the kids had checked out their Easter gifts, I quickly changed over the crates to their more permanent purpose: book holders!
Have you done any re-purposing lately? Do you like to find ways to reuse items like gift packaging?
