St. Patrick’s Day Crafts – Clover Etched Glasses

March 12, 2013 By Shannah 5 Comments

We are totally rocking out on the St. Patrick’s Day crafts this year!  With our new basement bar open for visitors, I decided to take some of Mathlete’s older beer glasses {I gave him new ones when the basement was finished} and give them a little St. Patrick’s Day treatment.

Darn if they weren’t the hardest things to photograph EVER!

I started with just a basic beer glass…nothing fancy at all.

DecoArt had sent me these super cute adhesive stencils and one happened to be a clover!  So, I put that on the glass where I wanted the clover to appear.

Then, I added the etching cream and waited for 15 minutes {per the instructions}.

Once my timer went off, I carefully removed the stencil and washed the etching cream off under cool water.

I don’t drink beer so then I waited for Mathlete to get home so he could enjoy a cold beer in his new St. Patrick’s Day glass!

This was my first time being successfull with the glass etching!  The last time I tried, the actual etching just kept washing off when I rinsed the cream off.  Craft fail for sure!

Are you making any last minute St. Patrick’s Day crafts? Etched any glasses recently?  Maybe you’ve had as much trouble trying to photograph something as I did in this post {ha!}…

Thanks for sharing Shanna. It looks really easy – but I’m sure you have to have “the hands” to make it work. I can imagine that the etching cream would just wash off with nothing to show for it. Haha!

For some reason, I just can’t get things to work – but I will definitely try this one. Where did you get the etching cream?

Nice job! I like this and will have to try it on some of our plain beer glasses. Thanks for the tutorial!
