Basement Reno: Details for Drinking

May 28, 2012 By Shannah 9 Comments

I shared the progress we’ve made on the framing for the basement bar area.  It’s pretty cool to see the area coming together.  Mathlete, of course, loves that side of it.  I have a harder time seeing it come together when it is just wood and nails.

So, let’s take a look at some of the {more} fun stuff.  A few weeks back, we took a trip to a bunch of different places to check out cabinets.  We ended up choosing cabinets from Ikea for budgetary reasons (i.e. we got quotes from a bunch of others places but the $2k+ savings just couldn’t be beat!)

We chose the Ramsjo in Black/Brown

We used the Ikea kitchen planner to plan out how the bar would look once the cabinets and appliances are in.

If you are sitting at the bar, it will look like this

The opposite side looks like this

We will have two pull out drawers on the end with one for recycling and one for trash.

Want an aerial view?

We picked Silestone for the countertop and are torn between two options…Stellar Snow is my favorite:

Mont Blanc is Mathlete’s favorite.

Unfortunately, there is about an $800 price differences between the two so I might end up losing out on this one!  We’ll see though.
For the backsplash, we chose this awesome tile with some stainless steel mixed in

For handles, we went pretty simple with the Ikea Bastig

Can you see it all now?  I can definitely picture it a little bit more with certain things picked out.

We put in a kitchenette in our basement ;ast year and used the same Ikea cabinets! Love them! We used white for the top and black/brown for the bottom, but I thought the kitchen planner on their site was so great.. I had created many plans before I finalized them! Good luck! – Susan
