Southwestern Turkey Burger

July 6, 2015 By Shannah Coe 1 Comment

This post is sponsored by VELVEETA® . All opinions are my own.

Summer is in full swing here. Our temperatures range from the mid-70s all the way up to almost 100. No matter what the temperature outside, we are always up for firing up the grill to cook dinner. Burgers are one of our favorite things to cook on the grill. While a good beef burger is always a winner, we tend to stray a little from the standard burger fare and opt for something like a chicken apple burger or a southwestern turkey burger.  They are so good hot off the grill and topped with a slice of melted VELVEETA® loaf.

The great thing about turkey burgers is that they are lower in fat than traditional beef burgers. I love adding tons of flavor to them by mixing in items into the burger and then adding toppings after it comes off the grill. This one is so easy because it only needs a few ingredients to make it too!

Southwestern Turkey Burger Ingredients:

1 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup black beans
1 cup salsa, divided
1/2 cup red onion
salt and pepper
4 oz VELVEETA® loaf, sliced
4 hamburger buns

Let’s Make It:

1) In a large bowl, combine turkey, black beans, 1/2 cup salsa, onion, salt and pepper. Mix well and form into 4 hamburger patties. Place in refrigerator.

2) Heat grill to medium heat. Lightly oil grates. Cook burgers 7-8 minutes on each side or until fully cooked.

3) Top burgers with VELVEETA®, continue heating for 1 minute until it melts, remove from heat and add burgers to the hamburger buns. Divide remaining salsa on top. Add hamburger bun tops and enjoy!
This recipe makes 4 burgers.

VELVEETA® is perfect for burgers because it melts into liquid gold. For a little bit of extra cheesiness and heat, you can shred some of the jalapeno VELVEETA® and mix it in with the turkey meat before cooking.

What is your favorite burger? Do you do a lot of grilling during the summer?

VELVEETA® lovers know it as Liquid Gold, and it has been a favorite of families since 1928. Known for its smooth, creamy texture and perfect melt, you can use VELVEETA® in a variety of recipes – and strike Liquid Gold.
