S’mores in a Jar

Ok, the calendar officially says September which means we are heading into fall very soon!  Hard to believe, right?  We’re still experiencing 80+ degree days but I know those crisp fall days are coming.   S’mores are one of those snacks that represent this transition from summer to fall so well.  Typically they are roasted over an open flame which happen often when you haul out the fire pit {firewood} to cope with the cooler evenings that mark the end of summer.  Sadly, I don’t have a place {yet} for a fire pit so I am stuck taking pity from neighbors finding other ways to get my s’mores in.  After playing around with s’mores pizza, I decided to give s’mores in a jar a try.

S’mores in a jar are awesome because you can put them together ahead of time and just have them waiting around for a smores craving hits.  To make them easier to eat, I broke up my graham crackers with a spoon before adding them to the jar.

I layered marshmallows, chocolate bar pieces and more graham cracker pieces in the jar and then sealed it up for a day or two.

When I was ready, I popped off the top and stuck my jar in the oven on 325 degrees for 5-10 minutes until my marshmallow was toasted and my chocolate all melty and delicious.  Of course, you could heat them in the microwave if you can’t bear to wait the 5-10 minutes.

You eat these s’mores with a spoon or fork which is awesome because you don’t get the messy hands that come from s’mores.  Let’s call these “civilized” s’mores, shall we? You can always dip your fingers directly into the marshmallow if you want “s’mores hands” though.  I won’t tell.

I may need a bigger pantry so that I can keep a stock of these s’mores in a jar handy for fall and winter!

What is your favorite late summer/early fall treat?  Do you frequently make s’mores even without an open fire to toast your marshmallows?
