His and Hers Asparagus

June 17, 2013 By Shannah 13 Comments

I love asparagus.  The Mathlete…not so much.  I always pick some up at the farmer’s market and he ALWAYS pushes it around his plate with disdain.  So, I set out to find a way to make it something we both want to eat.

For someone {like me} who enjoys the taste of asparagus, it doesn’t take much to make it delicious.

For mine, I just roast it in the oven with a little olive oil, salt and pepper.

Once it is done (only 5-7 minutes at 400 degrees), I grate a little lemon zest over it and add some fresh dill.

Mathlete needs a little more to disguise the flavors  so, of course, I went with the every man’s favorite “disguise”

Since bacon supposedly makes everything better, I did the same salt and pepper seasoning as mine and then wrapped it in bacon.

If your man is really resistent, wrap it all the way around with bacon versus just the middle.

Bake it in the oven at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes {until the bacon is done} and then serve ๐Ÿ™‚

How do you eat your asparagus?  Is your husband an asparagus avoider like mine?

I do love just regular roasted asparagus (never did grated lemon zest on it, great idea). But, adding bacon to anything makes life so much more enjoyable. Glad you found something to please him ๐Ÿ™‚

I love asparagus just about any way but roasted with lemon zest is one of my absolute favorites. The hubs, of course, needs a little meat to hide his veggies ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks so much for coming by.

Asparagus can be difficult to find at a reasonable price. Thankfully, there has been a bunch at our farmer’s market this week!
Yum, parmesan cheese would be delicious.

Oh this is a great idea! I love roasted asparagus (I love all my veggies roasted!) but my husband doesn’t care for veggies at all. But he does love bacon!

I think my husband barely tolerates veggies on the regular so adding baocn definitely helps.

Haha! Bacon should do the trick!!
My husband tolerates it….and actually likes it once in a while….but would prefer I never make it. Maybe I should add bacon? [wink]

Yeah, my husband will pretend to tolerate it every once in a while but I know he hates it. The bacon made a big difference.

Isn’t it funny how some men are so averse to vegetables?! Hope it works for your husband.

Ha! Cute, I’m with you, just a fast roast with some OO and S&P, yum. Men will eat ANYTHING if pork is involved!
