Flashback Post: KitchenAid Mixer Shredded Chicken

January 6, 2014 By Shannah Coe 26 Comments

Happy New Year!  By now, you have seen the claims that you can shred chicken in your mixer all over the internet.  I know that is so 2012 but still an important discovery!  I know I saw it on Pinterest and was instantly skeptical.  Last year, I did a post all about how I tried it and loved it but the photos were hideous and well, no one really saw it.  So, I am kicking off 2014 with a little flashback to 2012 and sharing with you KitchenAid Mixer shredded chicken!Shredded Chicken in Bowl_wmThat entire container of chicken was shredded with my mixer.  It is super simple to do too and will save you so much time.  I shred a lot at the time and then portion it out into bags.

Start by cooking your chicken.  I typically throw a bunch into my crockpot and let them cook in there.  You can really cook it just about anyway you want to.  The key is to shred it while it is still hot from cooking.
Grilled Chicken on Counter_wmAdd your chicken to your mixer bowl.  I do 2-3 breasts at the time depending on their size.
Chicken in Mixer Bowl_wmPut your bowl in place in your mixer.  Add the beater attachment {not the whisk} and put on the top shield if you have one.  Then, turn it on low and watch your chicken shred.  It only takes a minute or two to shred all the chicken so watch carefully.  Remove the shredded chicken and repeat if you have additional to shred.

Tips to Remember:
1) Shred your meat when it is hot.
2) If you are shredding grilled chicken, add a little bit of water or cooking liquid in when shredded.
3) Use the plastic shield if you have it.
4) Shred on the first or second setting only.

Shredded Chicken_wmSide view of shredded chicken_wmHow do you shred chicken {and other meats}?  Do you use your KitchenAid mixer in unexpected ways?

Use the paddle. The whisk is going to get all caught up in the chicken.

This is so nifty! I would and have always just pulled it by hand the old fashion way. Nice to know that that mixer can help with more than just mixing things for cooking and baking. I hadn’t heard of this so it was nice to read about it so I know for later. 🙂
