3D Pumpkin Art

October 21, 2013 By Shannah Coe 7 Comments

Styrofoam pumpkins and gourds make awesome decorating tools because they are so versatile and last forever.   Buy a couple of bags during the craft store sale and you will literally have pumpkins for years.  Recently, I had some leftover from my fall burlap baskets project and decided to create 3D pumpkin art with them to display in the house.Front view of 3D art_wm

This is such a simple project to do and can easily be changed to 3D apples or almost any other kind fruit or vegetable.   You just want to make sure that, when sliced in half, you have the ability to attach it with the back flat against your scrapbook paper.

Start by picking out your vegetables {or fruit} and cut them each in half.  My pumpkins actually had a rock in the middle of them so be sure to cut slowly in case yours are similar.   Separate your pumpkin into two pieces.Pumpkin in Half_wm

Attach your halves to scrapbook paper that has been trimmed to whatever size frame you are going to use.  Paper and Pumpkins with label_wm3d art_wm

My frames were 8×10 so I cut my paper to fit.   Once the glue is dry on your pumpkins, put them into the frames.  I actually layered my glass right behind the scrapbook paper and put all the other frame guts behind that to keep all the frame pieces together.  It also helps make the frame sturdier and keeps the paper from being floppy.angled view of 3D art_wm3D Pumpkin Art_wm

You can display these on a table or as part of a vignette.3D Pumpkin Art with Pumpkin_wm

Or, make a few of them and hang them on the wall as a collage.

Have you worked with faux pumpkins a lot this year?  Have you ever chopped them in half to make a craft?
