Ingredients

  • 1 cup Aperol
  • 2 cups white Glühwein or dry white wine
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 orange thinly sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks

Instructions

  • In a medium pot, combine the Aperol, prepared white Glühwein, apple juice, honey, orange slices, and cinnamon sticks. Stir to dissolve the honey.
  • Heat the mixture over low heat, ensuring it doesn’t boil, to preserve the Aperol's flavor. Let it warm for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • Taste the mixture and add more honey if desired for extra sweetness.
  • Pour the hot Aperol cocktail into heat-safe glasses or mugs, straining out the orange slices and cinnamon sticks.
  • Add an orange slice or a cinnamon stick to each glass for garnish.

Notes

  • Start with 2 tablespoons of honey, but taste before serving. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add more honey gradually, stirring well to dissolve.
  • Aperol has a bittersweet flavor, so balance it with the sweetness of the honey and apple juice. Avoid substituting with Campari as it’s significantly more bitter.
  • Aperol’s delicate flavors can become muted or overly bitter if boiled. Keep the heat low and simmer gently to preserve its unique taste.
  • Use mugs or glasses that can withstand heat to avoid cracks or discomfort while drinking.
  • Prepare the cocktail ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, gently reheat on low heat, ensuring it doesn’t boil.
