A Better Lunch Sandwich

October 25, 2012 By Shannah 1 Comment

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Wonder bread for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

As we started approaching this school year, I was rejoycing in the fact that my daughter was in half day Kindergarten which meant one more year before I had to start packing lunches for her.  Then, we got the unexpected news that my son would be going to a program in the elementary school and would be eating lunch at school.  So much for one more year of lunch freedom…

Of course, the easiest thing to pack into a kid’s lunch is a sandwich.  But, it can be pretty tough to make sure kids are still getting the nutrition they need when it comes to basic sandwiches.  Wonder bread definitely thought of that particular lunchbox challenge when they created Smartwhite for Kids.

Smartwhite for Kids looks and tastes exactly like the plain white bread kids know and love.  However, it is packed full of nutritional goodness that moms want to ensure their kids get.  It is fortified with the same amount of fiber as 100% whole wheat bread and contains the same amount of calcium as an 8 ounce glass of milk.  Plus, with no high fructose corn syrup, it is a choice that is easy to feel good about adding to a lunch box.

I visited their website to try out The Sandwich Wonder-izer! which lets you create your own sandwich using different kinds of Wonder bread and then view the nutritional information of the finished sandwich.  Or, if you are lacking in creativity one day, check out their premade sandwich ideas.

My kids like pretty plain sandwiches so I started from scratch and created a turkey sandwich for them with the following ingredients:
– 2 slices of Smartwhite for Kids
– 1 slice iceburg lettuce
– 1 slice swiss cheese
– 2 slices roasted turkey
– 1 green pepper ring

Check out the fiber, protein and vitamins in that sandwich!  Definitely something to feel good about sending off to school.

Be sure to check out Wonder bread on Facebook or visit The Sandwich Wonder-izer! to create your own sandwich combinations!
