Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs stir fry beef
  • 3 Tbsp cornstarch divided
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 4 cups peanut or canola oil

Sauce

  • 1 orange
  • 3 Tbsp molasses
  • 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine beef strips and 1 Tbsp soy sauce in a large bowl. Toss to combine. Combine cornstarch with salt and pepper and then coat beef strips evenly.

  2. Place wire race inside of baking sheet. Put coated beef strips on the wire rack and place in freezer for 30 minutes.

  3. While beef is in the freezer, combine zest from orange, 1/2 cup orange juice, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, molasses, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and crush red pepper in a medium bowl. Whisk to combine. Set aside.

  4. Heat oil in heavy bottom pot over medium high heat. Once hot (approximately 375 degrees), add 1/3 of beef strips. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels. Working in batches, repeat with remaining beef strips.

  5. Add sauce to large skillet and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and serve over cooked beef.
