Chalkboard Menu {Guest Post}

August 5, 2014 By Shannah Coe 5 Comments

I am so excited about today’s post! You see, Sarah {from Little Red Brick House} and I have something major in common: a love for chalkboard paint. Combine that with a love of staying organized and menu planning and we might as well be sisters. She is sharing her awesome chalkboard menu here today.

********************************************

I’m so, so excited to be guest posting here today on Just Us Four! Thank you so much, Shannah, for having me! My name is Sarah and I blog over at Little Red Brick House about all things creative, with an emphasis on DIY and home decor.

I have a small obsession with chalk boards. I mean, there’s one on my Wall Organizer in the front entry, one as a Calendar/Memo Board in my dining room/schoolroom (we homeschool) and now one in my kitchen! I would probably paint everything in chalkboard paint if my husband would let me. 😉

I like to plan my meals for the week ahead and I got tired of searching for my meal planning notebook every time I needed to know what was for dinner. Not to mention, an old spiral notebook isn’t very inspiring! I decided to make a chalkboard menu for the wall so I could just glance over at it when needed. It was such a simple project but it’s been super functional for me and I’m loving it so much!

Chalkboard Paint Pumpkins

September 17, 2013 By Shannah Coe 50 Comments

Artificial pumpkins are one of those craft items that you can do so many things with…carve, cover, paint, etc. The list really does go and on. Last year, I used some washi tape to decorate one for part of my Halloween decorations. This year, I decided to create some chalkboard paint pumpkins so my kids could decorate them over and over again between now and Halloween.Chalkboard Pumpkins on Steps with label_wm

August 27, 2013 By Shannah Coe 9 Comments

Today, we have another guest blogger sharing an awesome “why didn’t I think of that” idea!  Thanks so much to Consie, from Atop Serenity Hill, for guest posting here!

**********************************************************

Hi everyone! I’m Consie and I blog over at Atop Serenity Hill about face and body painting, cake decorating, photography and anything else that comes along on my creative journey. I am excited to be here today (thanks, Shannah!) to share my Foamcore Chalkboard with you!
foamcorechalkboardwithwashitapeI’m a fairly new blogger and staying organized with posts and ideas is a huge goal! I’m also slightly obsessed with my stats. So I decided to make a chalkboard for my craft space that would help me keep track of all those things and be a huge, physical reminder to keep up with my daily blog goals.

Countdown Calendar

July 8, 2013 By Shannah 4 Comments

This post originally appeared over on my friend Carrie’s blog, My Favorite Finds, to celebrate her upcoming trip to Disney!  I wanted to create a super simple countdown calendar.  While this calendar is really geared towards counting down to a Disney trip, you can easily change it up to countdown to anything fun {retirement, a holiday, etc.}.

Flashback: Chalkboard Dipped Wine Glasses

April 9, 2013 By Shannah 2 Comments

My hair is on fire.  Like almost literally…that is how crazy it is around here.  I’ve got kid stuff followed by a husband out of town…followed by me out of town {SNAP!}…then, we roll right into our big neighborhood yard sale where I am hoping to unload about 1/2 of our belongings this year.

So, over the course of the next few weeks, you are going to see some flashback posts here so I can remind you of how bad my photography was/is of some of the fun projects I’ve worked on in the past.  Don’t worry, they won’t all be flashbacks…I do have some new stuff thrown in there too.

Today, we start with one of my absolute favorites: chalkboard dipped wine glasses.

***********************************************

I was cruising around Pinterest the other day and stumbled across a great project that I knew I had to try!

We do a bunch of entertaining and so this would really be great for keeping everyone’s wine glasses straight. I used to have some of those little charms but they always get lost or broken. This seems like a perfect alternative as we always have chalk around.

You Can Quote Me – Back to School Bubble

August 21, 2012 By Shannah 43 Comments

With H going back to school, we wanted a way to capture some of her favorite things so we could see how her tastes evolve as she gets older.

I bought these cool mdf quote boards from an Etsy seller and painted them in black chalkboard paint

Then, I used painters tape to section off where I wanted to draw lines.

I used my chalk ink markers to trace lines against the painters tape.  Then, I wrote in my “categories” based on what H wanted to talk about. My bubble isn’t very big so I just wanted to capture her basic likes so I included: food, color, song and movie.

From there, I just got H to give me the answers to the questions and I filled it in.  I was a little surprised by 2 of her answers but it is her bubble so we went with it.  Once the answers were all filled in, we headed outside for a photo shoot.

Wow, MDF must be a lot heavier once you add chalkboard paint.

We’ll do another photo session on the actual first day of school.  Who knows…her answers might change by then.  She is 5 after all.
