Six After School Snack Ideas

August 28, 2015 By Shannah Coe Leave a Comment

sponsoredimage

By the time my kids get home from school, they are usually starving and immediately start asking for snacks. I try to make sure I have a variety of snacks around the house and always choose things that are pretty easy to take on the go too in case we have to head out immediately for gymnastics practice or some other event. In case you are coming up short on snack ideas as we head into the beginning of the school year, I thought I would share six after school snack ideas that are always at the top of my list.

Pesto and Sun Dried Tomato Tuna Salad

September 4, 2014 By Shannah Coe Leave a Comment

Tuna salad is one of those great go to lunch ideas because it is full of protein to help you make it through the day and tastes great. It also makes the perfect after school snack when the kids come home complaining they are so hungry. I created this pesto and sun dried tomato tuna salad to change up my typical version and cut out a lot of the unhealthy items that typically go into a tuna salad.

Tuna salad is the perfect lunch or after school snack option! Opt for this version which has zero mayo and is full of amazing flavor.

9 Back to School Lunchbox Ideas

August 14, 2014 By Shannah Coe 1 Comment

We have to face it. The first day of school is coming. For some of us, that may be a good thing and for others it may be something that we aren’t looking forward to so much. I am somewhere in between. Going back to school sets us into a predictable routine but it also brings a TON of extra activities that we don’t have to fit in during the fun, summer months. One of those things is packing lunches. I dread packing lunches each night so I went searching and found a few back to school lunchbox ideas to help me once we hit that first day of school.

Lunches are my hardest part of back to school. These 9 ideas of what to pack are really helpful! #backtoschool

Back to School Wreath with Numbers

July 24, 2014 By Shannah Coe 6 Comments

So, each month, a group of blogger friends and I get together to do a themed post. These women are amazingly creative and always knock it out of the park. In honesty, I typically forget about it until the week before or I just plain run out of time. Yep…I’m that person in the group! This month, our theme was numbers. I was stuck for so long because I couldn’t run into the kitchen and turn out something number related with ease. Instead, I did what I normally do when I am stuck…I talked to H and got her involved with the project. The result: this super cute back to school wreath with numbers.

Easy and super cute back to school wreath with glossy numbers! #CreativeBuzz

Turkey Taco Cups

September 19, 2013 By Shannah Coe 9 Comments

Back to school doesn’t have to mean more fast food! Make a delicious dinner of Turkey Taco Cups in under 30 minutes that everyone will love!

With school back in session and all that comes with it {homework, after school activities, PTA, etc.}, dinner can fall pretty far down the list of priorities.  That typically means more take out and/or more trips to fast food restaurants.  BUT, it doesn’t have to be that way!

Turkey Taco Cups are super fun for kids and the perfect serving size.

Ten Last Minute Back to School Ideas

September 2, 2013 By Shannah Coe Leave a Comment

Gah…it is September!  And our kids head back to school in like a day.  How did that creep up so fast?  Well, I saw fast but, if you are a “good” blogger, you probably started thinking about back to school in June…it is just what we tend to do.  Then, there are the people like me who get so swamped with general life and wake up to realize school starts in a few days.  You still want the cool ideas for your kids to celebrate back to school time but you just need stuff that takes a lot less time.  Don’t worry…I’ve got your back.

You Can Quote Me – Back to School Bubble

August 21, 2012 By Shannah 43 Comments

With H going back to school, we wanted a way to capture some of her favorite things so we could see how her tastes evolve as she gets older.

I bought these cool mdf quote boards from an Etsy seller and painted them in black chalkboard paint

Then, I used painters tape to section off where I wanted to draw lines.

I used my chalk ink markers to trace lines against the painters tape.  Then, I wrote in my “categories” based on what H wanted to talk about. My bubble isn’t very big so I just wanted to capture her basic likes so I included: food, color, song and movie.

From there, I just got H to give me the answers to the questions and I filled it in.  I was a little surprised by 2 of her answers but it is her bubble so we went with it.  Once the answers were all filled in, we headed outside for a photo shoot.

Wow, MDF must be a lot heavier once you add chalkboard paint.

We’ll do another photo session on the actual first day of school.  Who knows…her answers might change by then.  She is 5 after all.

Back to School Wreath

August 20, 2012 By Shannah 11 Comments

Want a quick and easy back to school project?  This one is for you then! Just a few easy supplies and you have a super fast but really cute back to school wreath!

Start with a circle of some kind.  You could cut a circle out of a cardboard box. I used the cardboard that came under H’s birthday cake {you can get them at Michaels or Party City} and then painted it red.

Then, grab some pencils and colored pencils along with your hot glue gun.  Just start hot gluing the pencils around the perimeter of the circle!  I alternated the regular yellow pencils with the colored pencils as I went around the outside of my circle.  I also alternated points out or erasers out.

Once I all the pencils are glued on, grab a stencil and stencil the front with a marker.

I also added in some little yellow stenciling too with acrylic paint.

Disclaimer: I had some help with my lettering in the form of a certain blond 5 year old.  It might explain the lopsided letters a bit..or maybe I am just totally incapable of writing in a straight line.

Just hang on the door and go…all ready for back to school.
